Collection: Sewing Patterns - Wearable Hot Water Bottle Cover

Have you tried our cosy Wearable Hot Water Bottle Covers!  Well now you can buy the pattern as a PDF or paper and make it yourself.

They were first designed for a local nurse who is wild about her cold-water swimming.  Check out my blog for the full story.

The brief I was given was:

  • It had to be easy to put on (because it's cold in the sea around Shetland and cold fingers aren’t the most mobile)
  • It had to be washable (it would end up covered in salt water after all the sea swimming)
  • If possible, could it please have a pouch to warm up those poor cold fingers

In the end, I came up with a traditional-style Hot Water bottle Cover but with some extra special features, the pattern will walk you through all the steps to make this yourself:

  • It has a super cosy cuddle fleece hand-warming pouch
  • The waistband strap was elasticated with an easy-to-use plastic buckle and adjustable up to 50 inches upstretched
  • An adjustable neck strap so you can decide where you want to wear it on your front (great for the dreaded time of the month, you know what I mean ladies)
  • Thermal insulation is quilted into the front of the Hot Water Bottle Cover to keep it as warm as possible for as long as possible
  • Rear envelope closure with button or metal snap.  This makes it easy to access your up to 2-litre hot water bottle for easy filling

Although they were designed for cold water swimming they are just as useful for many others:

  • Mums who have to stand at the side of the sports field supporting their little ones
  • Office workers in the winter months
  • Aurora hunters – read more about this in my Tips and Trick blog

Customer Testimonials:

  • "This pattern was amazing and made something very daunting easily doable. Full-colour step-by-step instructions held your hand throughout. I can't fault them. I made a cover for my daughter for wild swimming and chose to make all the straps detachable so she could use it in the house as well.”
